Fraud Monitoring and Reduction
Layered Security and Audit Controls
The best way to protect your account from fraud is by implementing a multi-layered set of security and auditing controls. Our online services have multiple security and monitoring features you can utilize. Our Treasury Management team will discuss each of these options with you when you enroll for the services. For more information on these services, visit the Business section of our website, call 888.334.2262 or email us at info@acnb.com.
Additional Information
ACH DEBIT BLOCKS
Blocks can be added to your business accounts in one of two configurations: (1) block all debits or (2) allow debits from authorized sources.
POSITIVE PAY
Checks posting to your account can be compared to a check file you provide to us. If the check number, dollar amount, date & account number do not match what’s included in your file, the transaction is presented to you as a suspect check for your review so you can make the decision if it gets paid or returned.
DUAL-CONTROL
Always utilize dual-control to approve activity if it’s offered as part of a service. If it’s an online service, perform the entry and approval process from different computers. If one has been exposed to key-logging malware, hopefully the other has not and a criminal cannot gain access to both pieces required to conduct transactions from your accounts.
ACTIVITY ALERTS
Some alerting features of our online services are enabled by default; some are optional. Please ensure you review these options with our Treasury Management professionals to ensure you can define internal review procedures that are right for your business. Train your staff to review and respond to all alerts.
ACCOUNT MONITORING
Review your account multiple times a day to review incoming and outgoing activity taking place throughout the day. Be especially timely in reviewing activity each morning. Criminals will attempt to trick banks into processing outbound transfers before you have the ability to access your account and review your activity.
GET CYBER-SECURITY INSURANCE
Talk to your insurance agent about cyber-security insurance to cover technical recovery costs as well as breach notification expenses.
CONSULT WITH LEGAL COUNSEL
Talk with your attorney regarding your liability to protect confidential customer or payment card information.
