Committed to Local Businesses like The Sew'n Place Every Business Has a Story

December 16, 2025

In a quiet, rural corner of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, something remarkable is happening along Route 30.

What looks like a small, family-owned sewing shop is actually one of the largest sewing machine dealers for a global brand, serving customers from far beyond the mountain roads that lead to its doors.

For more than four decades, The Sew’n Place has proven that when passion, family values, and community support come together, small businesses can thrive in big ways. Founded in 1982, The Sew’n Place is led today by Michael and Hether Sneeringer, continuing a legacy that began when Michael’s father was laid off after Singer Sewing Machine Company closed its retail stores nationwide. Rather than stepping away from the industry, the family leaned in and built something lasting.

From Fabric Store to Quilting Destination

The Sew’n Place began as a full-service fabric and sewing machine store, offering everything from wool and bridal fabrics to lace, crafts, and more. As the sewing industry evolved, so did the business. Over time, the Sneeringers recognized a shift toward quilting and embraced it fully.

“Quilting isn’t just sewing,” Michael explains. “It’s an art form.”

Today, The Sew’n Place has grown into a destination for sewists who value craftsmanship, creativity, and tradition. The store celebrates the generational connections that sewing creates, with mothers and grandmothers passing down skills, stories, and handmade pieces that transcend time.

Expanding the Experience

Growth did not stop at fabric and machines. In 2020, the Sneeringers expanded their property to include Caledonia Cafe, recognizing that customers traveling over the mountain and those attending classes needed a welcoming place to gather, refuel, and connect. Then, in 2023, they expanded again with Sew’n Sleep Retreat Center, a retreat center next door that allows guests to immerse themselves in their craft, stay on site, and build community around a shared love of sewing and quilting.

All three, The Sew’n Place, Caledonia Cafe, and Sew'n Sleep Retreat Center, sit together on the same property, creating a unique, experience-driven destination rooted in creativity and connection.

Navigating Uncertainty with a Trusted Banking Partner

The timing of the 2020 expansion came with unexpected challenges due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chain disruptions, rising construction costs, and labor shortages brought progress to a halt and nearly stopped the project altogether.

That is when ACNB Bank stepped in. Working closely with Chris Grimm, Commercial Loan Officer at ACNB Bank, the Sneeringers found more than financing. They found a true partner. Chris helped reconnect the project with new contractors and architects and provided the guidance and encouragement needed to keep moving forward.

“If it wasn’t for him pushing us and saying, ‘Try this. Go here,’ this wouldn’t be here,” Hether shares.

A True Community Banking Relationship

For the Sneeringers, ACNB Bank is more than a financial institution. It is a relationship built on trust.

“When we think of ACNB, we think of Chris,” Michael says. “He stops by. He checks in. It’s a very homey feeling.”

Today, The Sew’n Place trusts ACNB with their commercial needs, personal loans, mortgages, and insurance because trust has been earned through consistency, accessibility, and care.

This is what community banking looks like. Knowing your customers. Understanding their goals. Standing beside them through every stage of growth. ACNB Bank is proud to support local businesses like The Sew’n Place, businesses that enrich their communities, preserve traditions, and prove that even in the smallest towns, big ideas can flourish.
