Collecting new and/or gently used children's books TEAM ACNB Supports 17th Annual Holiday Book Drive in Frederick County
November 5, 2023
The Literacy Council of Frederick County is partnering with ACNB Bank and Curious Iguana bookstore for the 17th Annual Holiday Book Drive to provide new and gently-used books to elementary school aged children (PreK through 5th grade).
While the Literacy Council is primarily focused on serving adult literacy needs, the organization believes that providing appealing, age-appropriate books to children fosters literacy at a young age and helps to break the cycle of low literacy in families.
How to Participate
TEAM ACNB is excited to participate by serving as a collection site for new and gently-used children’s books. You may drop off donated books at any of ACNB Bank’s Frederick County, MD, locations during business hours through December 22.
New and Gently-Used Book Suggestions
- Younger Grades: board books, picture books (fiction and nonfiction), and early chapter books.
- Older Grades through 5th Grade: mid-grade chapter books, paperback series, graphic novels, and STEM titles.
The Literacy Council is requesting no religious holiday themed books so that they are not limited in distributing them.
Over the years, the Holiday Book Drive has provided books for multiple local agencies including Centro Hispano, Head Start, YMCA, Toys for Tots, Advocates for Homeless Families, Children of Incarcerated Parents (COIP), Blessings in a Backpack, Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland and Frederick County Public Schools.
We hope you will share your love of reading with a child this holiday season by purchasing and donating one or more children’s books!
