OCTOBER 2009

BRETHREN HOME HOEDOWN

The residents at the Brethren Home in New Oxford enjoyed a Country Hoedown on October 2. There was a petting zoo in the morning and a demonstration of square dancing in the afternoon for all to enjoy. Pictures were taken of the residents in cowboy hats and scarves for them to remember the occasion. Thanks to the Bank staff members who helped with this event.

RAYAC ANNUAL MARKETPLACE EVENT

The Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties (RAYAC) Marketplace took place on Wednesday, October 7. The theme for this annual event was “Halloween”, and Retail Mortgage staff members incorporated the theme into various aspects of the booth display. This event gives Retail Mortgage staff members the opportunity to network directly with realtors from Adams and York Counties. It’s definitely time well spent! Many thanks to the Retail Mortgage staff members who took care of setting up and manning the booth at this event.

DILLSBURG FARMERS FAIR

Employees and family set up the tent in the pouring rain on October 17 for the annual Farmers Fair in Dillsburg, hoping that the weather would clear, but unfortunately the rain and cold lasted all day. The weather put a damper on the day with the parades and other outside activities being cancelled and the crowds choosing to stay home. Most vendors tore down and went home early. We hope that next year’s event will be rain free and more successful. Thanks to the employees who braved the weather and came out to help.

SPELLING BEE

Tuesday, October 20 marked the 9th Annual Spelling Bee held by the Adams County Literacy Council. All proceeds from this event go toward the Kay Scriptunas Memorial Scholarship Fund. Two scholarships are awarded each year at the Spelling Bee, to students who are pursuing some type of higher education. The Bank’s team, consisting of Helen Jahn, Jeff Pottorff and Nicole Redden, competed against five other teams in the bee. Competition was fierce! The team came in third place, knocked out of the bee by the word chrestomathy. Have you used that word recently? You may have if you’re learning a new language. As defined by Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary, it is a selection of passages compiled as an aid to learning a language. Many thanks to the enthusiastic cheering section --- the team couldn’t have done it without you!

HALLOWEEN PARADES

Scooby Doo was the theme that was chosen for our floats and our employees did a great job of looking like the characters they portrayed. The Gettysburg Halloween Parade took place on Tuesday, October 27, in the rain and the cold. Thanks to the employees who helped the characters get into costume and also walked in the parade and gave out candy. The weather was much better for the Hanover Halloween Parade which was on Thursday, October 29. Thanks to our cast of characters for this parade and the other employees who took the time to be there. The “Mystery Machine” was creatively decorated and the crowds enjoyed seeing Scooby Doo.
