MAY 2010

Every year, the Adams County Office of Aging holds an event for area senior citizens called the Annual Spring Fling. This event gives seniors the opportunity to mix and mingle with friends, visit vendor booths, have lunch, and play bingo. The Bank has participated in the event every year since its inception. This year the event took place on May 18. Bank staff members were kept busy, greeting the attendees at the booth, and also mingling with them over lunch.

For the eighth year in a row, the Bank fielded a team for the Adams County Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. This event took place on May 21 and 22 at Oakside Park in Biglerville. This year the Bank is outdoing itself---with teams walking in the Dillsburg and Hanover area Relay for Life events as well! Relay for Life is a 24-hour event in which team members take turns walking around a course during the entire 24 hours. The 24-hour time period symbolizes a cancer patient’s fight against cancer. The first hours of Relay, as night approaches and darkness settles in, symbolize when a cancer patient first hears the diagnosis and begins treatment options. As the patient progresses through the treatment and becomes determined to battle the disease, his or her outlook is more positive and hopeful. This transition to hopefulness is represented by night fading away and the sun rising on the second day of Relay. On the Adams County team, there were 27 employees who raised money and walked. Many thanks to those who joined the team and to the employees who supported the team’s fundraisers.
