ADAMS COUNTY NATIONAL BANK
PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL GET SMART ABOUT CREDIT DAY
GETTYSBURG, Pa., November 18 --- It's never too early to learn the ABCs of wise credit use. Students in Adams, Cumberland and York Counties learned this lesson and more during credit education presentations conducted by Adams County National Bank staff members. These presentations were held in conjunction with the sixth annual Get Smart About Credit Day---celebrated Thursday, October 16---a day when banks across the United States had representatives conduct presentations to students in their local communities.
National Get Smart About Credit Day was initiated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF) in 2003 to raise awareness of the importance of learning good credit habits, as well as to help students become informed consumers regarding various types of credit, such as credit cards and auto loans. The ABAEF also includes information on its web site that parents or students can access to learn more about credit, as well as other financial matters. This information can be accessed at www.aba.com/ABAEF/gsac.htm.
The schools and Bank staff members involved in National Get Smart About Credit Day included: Dover Area High School - Ginny L. Huntsberry and Angela M. Sibert; Biglerville High School - Holly A. Bonner and Shelby L. Pentz; Gettysburg High School - Jennifer L. Hartlaub and Tia M. Williams; Fairfield Area High School - Douglas C. Kump and Amanda S. Hahn; and Big Spring High School in Newville - Douglas R. Lindsay and James E. Showvaker. Dover Area High School and Biglerville High School had their presentations conducted in October, while the other presentations take place in November. Over 175 students will be involved in these presentations. Additionally, another presentation will be conducted in January 2010 at Bermudian Springs High School.
““There's no better time than the present to begin teaching young adults about the importance of good credit,” said Holly Bonner, Retail Office Manager of the Bank's Biglerville and Bendersville Offices. “By learning these lessons now, students are better prepared to make wise choices about their finances in the future.””
The presentations are designed to introduce students to credit and to emphasize the significance of good credit. Bank staff members conducted lessons on developing good credit habits, such as paying on time, using credit wisely and not borrowing more than you can repay.
