ADAMS COUNTY NATIONAL BANK
PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE DAY

GETTYSBURG, Pa., July 9 --- Area students were educated on their financial ABCs during financial literacy presentations conducted by Adams County National Bank staff members. These presentations were in conjunction with the 14th Annual National Teach Children to Save Day on April 27.

National Teach Children to Save Day was initiated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF) in 1997 to raise awareness of the need to improve financial literacy among American youth, as well as to help students become informed consumers of the financial marketplace. The ABAEF includes information on its Web site that parents and teachers can use to teach money skills to children. This information can be accessed at www.aba.com/ABAEF/consumers.

Adams County National Bank staff members made several presentations at schools within the Bank’s market areas throughout April and May. The Bank staff members and schools involved in National Teach Children to Save Day include: Danielle M. Bailey, Rachel L. Rebert and Laura E. Starner – Bendersville and Biglerville Elementary Schools; Kimberly S. Flickinger – Clearview Elementary in Hanover; Barbara D. Guise – Bermudian Springs High School; Ginny L. Huntsberry and Angela M. Sibert – Leib Elementary in Dover; Susan R. Lang and Tammy J. Smarsh – Fairfield High School; and, Laura L. McCusker – Annunciation BVM and Sacred Heart Schools in McSherrystown. Approximately 825 students participated in these presentations.

“It’s never too early to begin teaching students the importance of saving and how to save,” said Laura L. McCusker, Retail Office Manager for the Bank’s McSherrystown Office. “I appreciated having the chance to work with the students, teachers and administration at both Annunciation BVM and Sacred Heart Schools.”

Each presentation is tailored to the specific grade level participating in the program. Topics featured in the presentations conducted by the Bank’s staff members included the importance of saving, how to prioritize “wants” versus “needs”, and how to save. These topics were presented via discussions, stories, and hands-on activities.
