ACNB BANK
PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE CAMPAIGN

GETTYSBURG, PA, June 4 --- Along with reading, writing and arithmetic, financial ABCs were part of lessons learned by students during financial literacy presentations conducted by ACNB Bank staff members. These presentations were in conjunction with the 16th Annual National Teach Children to Save Campaign.

The National Teach Children to Save Campaign was initiated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF) in 1997 to help youth become informed consumers of the financial marketplace. The ABAEF has information on its web site that parents and teachers can use to teach money skills to children. This information can be accessed at www.aba.com/ABAEF/consumers.

ACNB Bank staff members made several financial literacy presentations at schools within the Bank's market areas from February through June. The Bank staff members and schools involved include: Danielle M. Peters and Tia M. Williams - Adams County Christian Academy in Gettysburg; Danielle M. Peters and Christy M. Beaston - Biglerville Elementary School; Danielle M. Peters and Laura E. Starner - Bendersville Elementary School; Barbara D. Guise - Bermudian Springs High School; Tammy J. Smarsh - Fairfield High School; Tia M. Williams - James Gettys Elementary School in Gettysburg; Douglas R. Lindsay - Mooreland Elementary School in Carlisle; and, Danelle L. Goodwin - Spring Grove Elementary School. Approximately 500 students participated in these presentations.

“It's never too early to talk to youth about the importance of using money wisely," said Danielle M. Peters, Retail Office Manager for the Bank's Biglerville, Arendtsville and Bendersville Offices. “We enjoy the chance to visit the schools and work with the students and teachers on this subject.”

Each presentation is tailored to the grade level participating in the program. Topics featured in the presentations conducted by the Bank's staff members included how to prioritize “wants” versus “needs”, making choices between spending and saving money, and how to save, as well as budgeting and the importance of good credit, and how to establish credit. These topics were presented via discussions and hands-on activities.
