GETTYSBURG, PA, January 16---The chance to win a scholarship has been a draw for many students over the years to enter the Student Design Contest held by the Builders Association of Adams County (BAAC). The contest has taken place for a number of years. For the past two years, ACNB Bank has sponsored the contest by contributing $1,000 to the BAAC.

"We are glad to have the opportunity to support two groups that are essential to our community---the BAAC, which supports the local building industry, and students, which are our community's future," said Helen A. Jahn, Vice President & Corporate Relations Officer of ACNB Bank.

The Student Design Contest is held in conjunction with the BAAC's annual Home Show, which takes place this year on February 21 and 22 at the Allstar Events Complex. "The students are busy working on their plans now," said Jeff Zigler, President of the BAAC. To enter the contest, students are required to do a full set of architectural building plans. The plans are judged on originality, attention to detail, functionality, ability to build, and overall neatness. Some students take it to the next level and also create a model of the building they've designed.

The contest is open to students in architectural programs in all of the high schools in Adams County. "On average, about 10-15 students participate each year," said Mr. Zigler. He continued, "We would really like to get entries from all the schools in the county. There's still time for students to enter. To find out more about the contest, teachers may contact the BAAC at 717-337-5144 or baacmail@yahoo.com."

The effort that the students put into the contest is tremendous and evident from the plans submitted. "It's fantastic to see the education and experience that students are gaining through architectural programs right here in Adams County," said Mrs. Jahn. "Everyone should come to the home show and see the amazing things that these students are doing."

All who come to the show have the opportunity to vote on their favorite building plan for the People's Choice award. Mark your calendar to stop by and make your vote count! The dates and times for the Adams County Home Show are Friday, February 21, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 22, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. It takes place at Allstar Events Complex, located at 2638 Emmitsburg Road, Gettysburg. In addition to the Student Design Contest and vendor booths, the show features a children's build zone, food vendors, indoor landscaping competition, nail pounding competition, Lincoln Log competition, and door prizes.
