ADAMS COUNTY NATIONAL BANK
PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL GET SMART ABOUT CREDIT DAY
GETTYSBURG, Pa., November 23 --- It's never too early to learn the financial ABCs of good credit. Students in Adams and Cumberland Counties learned this lesson and more during presentations conducted by Adams County National Bank staff members. These presentations were held in conjunction with Get Smart About Credit Day---celebrated Thursday, October 18---a day when more than 1,150 bankers across the United States made presentations to students in their local communities.
National Get Smart About Credit Day was initiated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF) in 2003 to raise awareness of the importance of learning good credit habits, as well as to help students become informed consumers regarding various types of credit, such as credit cards and auto loans. The ABAEF also includes information on its web site that parents or students can access to learn more about credit, as well as other financial matters. This information can be accessed at www.aba.com/consumer+connection/default.htm.
The schools and Bank staff members involved in National Get Smart About Credit Day included: Biglerville High School - Jennifer L. Hartlaub, Shelby L. Pentz, and John B. Santino; and, Big Spring High School in Newville - Douglas R. Lindsay. In addition, John Santino conducted a presentation at Lincoln Intermediate Unit to 15 attendees. Approximately 125 students were involved in these presentations. Future presentations are planned at Fairfield High School on November 29 by Wendy D. Roth and Jennifer Hartlaub. Additionally two others will be conducted in 2008 at Northern High School in Dillsburg and Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown.
“I've been involved in several Get Smart About Credit Day presentations,” said John Santino, Sales Manager of the Bank's New Oxford Office. “It's a great opportunity to meet and work with high school students. By teaching the importance of credit and budgeting now, we're preparing them to make better choices about their finances in the future.”
The presentations are designed to introduce students to credit and to emphasize the significance of good credit. Bank staff members conducted lessons which included comparing credit cards, uses of credit, how to establish and maintain a good credit history, and the cost of credit.
