ADAMS COUNTY NATIONAL BANK
PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE DAY
GETTYSBURG, Pa., May 12 --- Area students are learning their financial ABCs during presentations by Adams County National Bank staff members which began in April and will continue through May. These presentations are in conjunction with the Twelfth Annual National Teach Children to Save Day on April 29.
National Teach Children to Save Day was initiated by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation (ABAEF) in 1997 to raise awareness of the need to improve financial literacy among American youth, as well as to help students become informed consumers of the financial marketplace. The ABAEF includes information on its Web site that parents and teachers can use to teach money skills to children. This information can be accessed at www.aba.com/ABAEF/consumers.
Adams County National Bank staff members made several presentations at schools within the Bank's market areas. The Bank staff members and schools involved in National Teach Children to Save Day included: Michael D. Becker and Wendy D. Roth - Conewago Township Elementary in Hanover; Jennifer L. Hartlaub and Wendy D. Roth - Annunciation BVM School in McSherrystown; Kimberly S. Flickinger and Gayle M. Mowrer - Rolling Acres Elementary in Littlestown; Laura L. McCusker - Sacred Heart School in Hanover; Angela M. Sibert - Northern Elementary School in Dillsburg; and, Douglas R. Lindsay - Mount Rock Elementary and Newville Elementary, both in Newville. Approximately 702 students participated in these presentations.
“It's never too early to begin teaching children about the importance of saving money,” said Michael D. Becker, Sales Manager for the Bank's West Gettysburg Office. “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the students, teachers and administration of Conewago Township Elementary.”
Each presentation is tailored to the specific grade level participating in the program. Topics featured in the presentations conducted by the Bank's staff members included the importance of saving, how to save, as well as how to prioritize “wants” versus “needs”. These topics were presented via discussions, stories, videos, and hands-on activities.
